Hi Pawel
By way of additional comments from those already provided by Robert and Thomas.
Firstly, it is such a shame that screen reader access to Audacity on the Mac,
which was looking so promising some years ago, has since declined. On Windows,
with no additional scripts or plugins, it is eminently usable, with the
potential for enhancements.
Like Robert, I use both Audacity and Reaper. Yes, Reaper is probably more
geared towards professional or semi-professional musicians. It includes full
midi support and offers non-destructive editing. For editing I especially like
its scrubbing facility, which allows fast and accurate placement. I also have
a small control surface which talks to Reaper via the midi interface and that
adds some utility.
I agree with Robert about setting levels. It is dead easy in Audacity and
problematical in Reaper. I usually render (or export) from Reaper and put the
file into Audacity to confirm/adjust the final level.
Another important consideration, at least for my feeble brain, is the learning
curve. Its contextual way of doing things can catch one out very easily.
In summary, I love Audacity's combination of quite a lot of power and ease of
use. It is always my first choice for recording - say - from a streaming
service or for an uncomplicated recording. I will use Reaper when attempting
to play my midi keyboard and for doing more complex operations, but do find
myself muttering darkly some of the time. And of course, Reaper is not free.
Andrew

Subject: [audacity4blind] Audacity vs Reaper
Good day guys,
Is there any particular reason why you would recommend one app over the other?
Should I understand that Reaper is oriented more towards Pro-musician users
than Audacity?
Thanks,
Pawel
