I'm using Audacity 1.3. that's not the newest beta version but it's a pretty current one. Everything should apply if you are using the current version. If you are using the nonbeta version, probably little or nothing will apply.
If you are going to use the beta version, you should know that there was and probably still is a problem with the beta where recording is unreliable. Everything else I've checked has worked properly but I don't use the beta for recording. files become corrupted when recording far too often to make recording reliable. You can have both the beta and nonbeta versions on the same machine. If you want to use audacity for recording, use the nonbeta for recording and the beta for everything else.

Once you are on the selected track, use the command shift end to select the entire track. I am assuming the cursor is at the beginning, which it should be if you haven't moved it. If you have moved it, for some reason, use the commands home, followed by shift end to select the track.Open the menus and right arrow to effects. Down arrow until you get to invert. Press enter.the ttrack will be inverted, that is placed out of phase with the other track. This has nothing to do with and no connection with the reverse menu item which you don't use for this procedure. After inversion is complete, up or down arrow and make sure both tracks are selected. I'm not sure this step is necessary so you can experiment if you wish. Open the context menu, find make stereo track and press enter. You are now combining the file you previously split into one track again.When conversion is finished, use control a to select all.Open the track menu and find stereo to monaural. Press enter. The file must be converted to a monaural file for the vocals not to be heard or to be very soft. Once conversion has completed, you have finished the procedure. Your sound card may have such a provision but I believe you would have to use another recording program if you want to do this from within the recording program itself.Also, you can only remove singing if the singing is in the middle position in a stereo file. Probably a joint stereo file would allow you to remove it as well. However, you won't be able to remove singing using the standard method if the singer is on the right or left and the closer any voices are to the right or left positions, the less of the voices will be removed.
