There are several makes / models available. Mine is quite old now, the
Yamaha AW1600.

Dedicated 8 track hard drive? Do you have a pointer to the information on

I mostly use a UCA 202 interface with a mixing desk. I also have a
dedicated 8 track hard drive recorded and a Zoom H2.

Sorry, I've no idea about the Delta 1010 or Mackie Onyx, perhaps
someone else on this list may have used them. I assumed from your
original post that your hardware was working. Of course, if you can
only achieve functionality with ASIO drivers, then you will need ASIO.

So, Something like the Delta 1010 or Maki Onyx lines would work just
fine
to
have multiple instruments recorded on their own channel all at once?

I checked out the recommended equipment list on the wiki and noticed it
has
recently expanded. Are people reporting on new equipment that works
with
Audacity somewhere? I haven't seen much talk of it here.

Thanks,
David

Probably not worth the effort.

If you were using "VST instruments" or using a sound card that lacked
zero latency monitoring, then ASIO would be a significant benefit, but
Audacity does not support support VST instruments and you should be
able to use zero latency monitoring with your hardware, so there is
little or no benefit in using ASIO with your setup.

I'm trying to decide if it is worth the effort to compile ASIO into
Audacity. I've been using Audacity daily for months now, and enjoy
the
fact
my work flow is familiar. The learning curve is gentle.

I have other options to try and figure out how to record multiple
tracks
at
once on my input devices; Berringer Q1202 and Peavey USB8, but I'd
like
to
use Audacity because the learning curve is gentle. Other software
options
include Reason, but I would need to take the time to learnhow to use
it...
probably would need to spend time scripting it.

I could compile ASIO into Audacity but the learning curve there seems
immense. I haven't done Windows development since my son was born in
2006.

Any suggestions how to decide where to put my efforts? My main goal
is
to
continue recording daily... I'd like to add multi track capability
with
the
least amount of learning curve. Audacity with ASIO seems like the
best
option for me, but I'm not super interested in the learning curve
needed
to
compile the ASIO version of Audacity.

Suggestions? Thanks to all,
David
