Personally, I've found that I need to re-solder the keys from time to
time. I feel like the experience of soldering the keys yourself is
something of a prerequisite for this particular keyboard.
It's not supposed to turn into junk as soon as a part breaks!
However, it may have been nice to have the chip portion pre-done,
because that's pretty unlikely to be an issue later on. I feel like
that's the more difficult part of the process, since the leads are so
close. Also, having the wood pre-sanded and finished would have been nice.

Assembling a presoldered kit would still require soldering the switches
in, because this can't be done until after the finishing on the case is
done. But this part of the assembly is much easier to do than soldering
the controller, and it's nearly impossible to mess up. In fact, it's so
easy that a child could do it--I took a video of my 8-year-old son
soldering the switches and hope to edit it down to a time-lapse so you
can see what it's like.
Anyway, I would like to hear from folks about whether this is something
they would be interested in, or would have been interested in if it were
an option when they bought their kit. The additional fee for a
presoldered kit would probably be $30. Thoughts?
