Hi
In addition to the full RAM test, there is a fairly complete test of
the 6502 itself. (It looks like it was designed to interface with some kind
of diagnostic cartridge.)
My humble opinion is that those tests were done to ensure the early
prototypes of the 7800 were working correctly, as i'm sure the first
games were coded before the final hardware was completed.
Who knows.. :)
