ASSISTANT PROFESSOR IN ENGINEERING DESIGN The Engineering Design Program at Penn State is seeking applicants for tenure-track faculty at the Assistant Professor level. New faculty will join a diverse team that is actively pursuing new initiatives in education, research, and service in cross-disciplinary methods of design that apply to most fields of engineering. In addition to traditional engineering design concentrations, applicants with backgrounds in manufacturing, built environments, biomedical applications, cognitive psychology, and human-computer interaction are encouraged to apply. The Engineering Design Program (www.edp.psu.edu) is housed within the College of Engineering and is part of the School of Engineering Design, Technology, and Professional Programs (SEDTAPP) with related efforts in Technology-based Entrepreneurship, Engineering Leadership, and Humanitarian Engineering and Social Entrepreneurship. The Engineering Design Program offers undergraduate and graduate courses in design, and the successful candidate will become an integral part of the graduate faculty. The Program’s faculty represent many disciplines and collaborate across departments and colleges. Current research and teaching activities include: innovative design, design cognition, design decision-making, industrial design, integrated systems design, design theory and methodology, design for human variability, design/build service projects, sustainable design, design ethics, interaction design, and data mining-driven design. We seek creative, dynamic applicants who will add new ideas, courses, programs, research, and funding. Collaborations with other departments in engineering and other colleges are strongly supported. Design experience in industry is desirable. Candidates must have earned a PhD in a field that is appropriate to support research and teaching in engineering design. They should also be comfortable working in interdisciplinary settings. Evidence of excellent teaching ability is required. In addition to an application letter, curriculum vitae, and the names and contact information for three references, the applicant must submit both Research and Teaching statements (or an integrated statement) that demonstrate how their interests and experiences align with those of the Engineering Design Program. Outstanding candidates at the Associate Professor level will also be considered. For additional information and to apply, please visit: www.edp.psu.edu/design/position.php To ensure full consideration, applicants must submit materials by January 6, 2014, although materials will be accepted until the selection process is complete. Employment will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies.
