Dear Colleagues,
I wanted to send you an email highlighting this year’s Lush Prize. The Prize is
supported by the UK cosmetics company Lush and the organization Ethical
Consumer, and rewards financial prizes annually to individuals and
organizations working to replace animal testing in science, lobbying, and other
areas. This year’s prize is significant because, in addition to awards of
£200,000 for the usual annual categories, the sponsors also awarded the very
first “Black Box Prize” of £250,000 for outlining the first adverse outcome
pathway, for skin sensitization. The OECD and individual scientists split that
prize amount.
Please see below for more details on the winners.
Details for next year’s prizes will be released in April of 2016. Consider
nominations yourself or a colleague!
Regards,
Kristie

Dear friend
For those of you who couldn’t attend November's Lush Prize Conference, or
missed our social media updates, we are delighted to announce the winners of
the Lush Prize 2015.
Lush Prize judges this year decided to award the first ever Black Box
Prize<http://lushprize.us5.list-manage.com/track/click?u=43ec2da1045d7281f214d8e2e&id=453bbf8224&e=e8ca7bb609>.
This category gives the whole £250,000 fund for a key breakthrough in human
toxicity pathways research.
Using 21st century technology like genetics and computing, scientists have now
fully explained at a molecular level how a toxic chemical can enter the human
body and lead to an allergic skin reaction. This breakthrough moment marks the
first step into a future where a superior molecular science replaces the old,
imprecise, technology of testing on live animals in laboratories.
Thanks to extremely generous funding from Lush North America we were also able
to award £200,000 across the other five categories of prizes. So, the Lush
Prize this year has given £450,000 funding to initiatives around the world to
completely replace animal testing! These include research into body-on-a-chip
systems, replacement of foetal bovine serum, lobbying to change legislation and
undercover investigations.
