OK, so running MenuBar messes up the printing system.
That MenuBar feature of recording system variables and restoring them
automatically on start-up is downright dangerous, not only in this
context. This can break all sorts of things. I can only advise against
using this feature.

Exactly.
So, confusion over: You are affected by a different problem and the
analysis of the problem affecting the other users in this thread
remains correct: It is specific to pop-up !Printers (version 1.7x)
with unavailable USB printers in the printers list.
