With the ATF and FBI investigating, I'm a little worried that this will
affect the hobby as a whole. We really don't need another AP ban or more
government intervention to keep us safe (from ourselves).
I already got an email from our University safety people.... They feel
quite validated for telling us we can't mix propellant.

Well, as anyone who's every made their own solid fuel motors knows; there
will be unplanned disassemblies. Especially early on in the
testing/development stages.
Galvanized pipe, per se, is not the problem. I always make a few cheap,
simple (usually of small diameter PVC) motors to get basic propellant
info. But I always make sure any inadvertently created, high velocity
fragments will be contained. My usual solution (I'm into simple) is a hole
deep enough to contain the inverted (another precaution) motor. You always
have to assume the sucker will increase the entropy of the universe and
plan accordingly.
I sure hope this doesn't impact university rocket programs. And our
prayers to the injured students.
