Getting rid of the jet vanes was one of the first things their
designers did when wartime schedule pressure was removed and they
could afford to rethink for their next rocket (Redstone).
Oops, nope, I misremembered the time scale here -- Redstone still had vanes.
It took a little while to make gimbaling work.

But didn't V-2 also have vanes in each fin tip, possibly independent from
the 4 vanes inside the exhaust?
The exhaust extension was the museum stand.
(my picture in the Imperial War Museum, April 2005). The horizontal display
one: origin unknown.
The B&W V2 on the square is a 1945 picture (taken in Antwerp from an
exhibition, then)
