Hello Dave,

I am extremely wary of PVC casings; many years ago I saw one fragment into quite sharp pieces from about 50 ft away, and one is more than enough for me... I know that any number of people have used and even recommended PVC for such applications. I'm not one of them.

That being said, black powder motors have been made for literally centuries by tamping the powder into (PAPER) casings. BP is not particularly sensitive to pressure. And sugar propellant (without sulfur) is probably significantly less sensitive than BP. For me, it's the casing that makes me cringe.

Although, if you jump to the 7-min mark, he test-fires one motor "cast" in a clear acrylic tube that illustrates the burn rates quite nicely.
