This gets ever odder and odder! This afternoon, start-up without Keystroke, ran TaskUsage. Hardly a flicker from NewIcons (what does that do, anyway, and why does it need to keep running?), but Free Memory Display jumping all over the place, even up to over 100%! And not long before another freeze happened, keyboard and mouse not responding, so either of the break options not available, and the reset button not working. The real oddity: TaskUsage kept going blithely on its way, not reporting anything unusual. So turn off, wait, turn on again. I now have Keystroke running, and NewIcons and Free Memory Display are behaving reasonably, and so far no freeze. Wild surmises: 1) Could it be anything to do with the keyboard and/or mouse? Worth replacing either? If so, what would people recommend? But then, why does the reset button not work? 2) USB connections inside the box not seated properly? It was badly shaken up in transit, and eventually, after a lot of mutual incomprehension between me and Andrew, it transpired that the connection to the SSD had fallen off. (He kept asking about the SSD, and I asked what SSD? It wasn't there.) Worth looking at the internal USB connections much though I dread having to look inside? And the same caveat applies concerning the reset button. As before, any ideas would be more than welcome. I'm delighted with the ARMini, but this problem is taking a little of the icing off the cake.
