I have Reporter anyway. I can't believe that I didn't think
to run it!

NetSurf *does* appear in the section headed:

|Start RISCOS !Boot 0.72 ResApps

I've attached the relevant section of Reporter's output to
save limiting it by Pluto's width setting for sending
emails.

Although I see it, I can't draw any conclusions from it.
Perhaps someone with a younger and more agile brain can
explain it to me.

Looks as though there's a copy of Netsurf in $.network on the boot disc. 
That directory also contains things automatically booted at startup.

Inside that !Netsurf is a !boot. The last few lines claim HTML and URLF 
files. If you want to keep Netsurf on the computer, but allow IRIS to be 
the default for those file types, then add a | in front of each of those 
lines so they don't get executed.

If you don't want Netsurf at all, then just move/delete it from the 
$.Network directory.
