What is the 'official recommended' standard location for placing an Obey
file to be enacted at bootup to:
A) Perform the ReadEDID and thus match the modes offerred to the screen
report?
There isn't an offcial script to do this, as it is primarily of interest
when combined with (b).
Those that wish to fiddle may wish to alter !Boot.Choices.Boot.PreDesk.
Configure.Monitor to include *ReadEDID.
However, for "purely monitor" use, the stock MDF should still suffice.
B) Also do the HDMIOn and *Audio switch to get the audio switched to HDMI?
Running the HDMIaudOn file does this *and* ReadEDID. A valid method is to
simply double click !Boot, click "Boot" then "Run" and drag in the
HDMIaudOn file to ensure it runs at startup.
Before doing this, I recommend confirming that this works by running said
file manually. Not all monitors support HDMI audio, and some don't like
"full HDMI" at all (ie. only accept DVI digital picture signal). If done
manually to test, you can simply reboot the computer if your monitor
doesn't play ball.
Kind wishes,
Andrew
PS, in terms of "Order thing are run at Startup", the most technical
solution would be to create a folder in PreDesk called "HDMIaudio" and
create a !Run obey file there containing the lines:
*ReadEDID
*WimpMode X1920Y1080C16M (adjust numbers as needed)
*HDMIon
*audio SoundDMA#HAL_0007_16000000
This would effectively superceed (ie. be executed after, and therefore
override) the standard RISC OS monitor config. By being in predesk, it
would then be followed by a mode change which is helpful (makes high khz
audio options visible). However, the method mentioned in the main section
of this email, achieves 90% of the results for 10% of the effort.
