We are pleased to announce OS update 4 for ARMX6 and a corresponding
Super Pack (SP) - SP4.

Together, these two items will upgrade your ARMX6 to the current
standard that we'll be demonstrating at the show this weekend. The
core operating system - OS update 4 - forms the heart of your
computer, whilst the SP contains all the improvements to the disc
image (!Boot and bundled software).

As usual, the OS update is simply a case of "double click the
upgrader, then click the Update button". The SP is a "drop on" update
for your disc image.

Instructions are provided in the zip file for each.

On the OS front, the primary change in this edition relates to
compatibility fixes with various software applications, most notably
SpecialFX/gdraw. Due to the way this has been done, it may help other
software too, so this update is strongly recommended.

As for the SP, it contains a huge array of updates to almost every
part of the disc image. Most notably, it represents the introduction
of hardware floating point (VFP) optimisations into many common
aspects of the system - PDF rendering and creation, video and audio
playback, some image conversion etc. This is a significant step
forwards for RISC OS, and begins to unlock some of the hardware
capabilities of modern ARM CPUs.

As well as this, the update paves the way for key future developments,
both in terms of potential compatibility fixes in applications, and by
providing the shared-library infrastructure needed for cross platform
applications. This is still in its infancy, but the latest advances
in the C compiling tools make it easier to bring software to RISC OS
than ever before. SP4 gives ARMX6 the where-with-all to run such
software in the easiest possible way.

All in all, we hope that you enjoy these updates, and that you'll
enjoy the best possible experience from your ARMX6 with them
installed.

As usual, the updates can be downloaded from the private i.MX6 area of
our website, as explained in the back pages of your Welcome leaflet.

Best wishes,

Andrew
