I just got a call from a friend Ramsay Saba, who was just initiated at the Pike
House
Apparently they have been flagged for a violation, someone turned them in for
having a 30-50 people gathering / party at the house, in late March. He doesn't
believe they violated the rules, but he can get into more detail on enforcement
at other houses vs this.
They may have until 4/20 to appeal the sanction, and he is looking for help
from anyone connected on campus.
Background is that they are very cautious and do not feel they violated the
rule, and may be singled out while other fraternities have had actual parties
and larger, and the details of that Ramsay will flll in.
The question now is how to keep Pike house open on campus, and it may take some
lobbying and discussions with the right people.
Further background there have not been an covid cases at the pike house since
last sept, they have had zero cases at the house this year
Ramsay Saba was slated to be Alumni Liaison for reunited older alum Pikes at
more functions, and is excited to do this work. A really hard working, good
kid who is the son of friends in Tucson CC, and can be reached at 520-499-7380
I gave him Duff Hearon contact so far, but really don't know many folks in the
correct circles, except I have met and talked to UA President Dr Robbins at
TCC.
He was instrumental in getting UA golfers to call TCC its home, thanks to a
long hard agreement being finalized now for large commitment of $5 to $7MM for
TCC to host the Cats Golf Teams here, and will be building a new facility just
for them, and doing misc course improvements they want to see, lengthening
course, new practice facility, etc Very exciting and we got it approved
amongst our TCC members, which was not an easy deal to get approved but it is
done now on our end. They will have 25 student memberships (transferable for
Cat Golf team presumably, and 2 full memberships for coaches, for 10 years as
part of the program
I am not sure how to approach Dr.Robbins, but if anyone knows him, that would
help of course. I can try to go through Coach LaRose who knows him well, but
not sure if we can get an ear for our beloved Pike organization,.
The IFC apparently is handling the appeal, and Dean of Students involved, but
IFC is headed by a competing fraternity that "has it out" for Pike house,
according to some reports if biased or uneven accusations / enforcement of the
policies.
Apparently there was also a hazing issue last year, and Ramsay said was
similarly unfair, but they got through that.
Anyone who has pull w big sway Alumni or Dean of Students or Pres Robbins or
others would be helpful
Not sure if they need legal rep to help out the house existence or not, maybe ?
Appreciate any input, via this forum and of course direct if more appropriate,
