[argyllcms] total beginner question

Hi
I have a grey 16 bit image with a limited range of values. Using
cinepaint It shows up
dark on my display. I'm guessing that what I need is some kind of
display profile that will map my image values to something with a wider
range.
How do I go about this? I know very little about color management. I
just want to see my image without actually changing its values!
