Yes.

Probably not. I was letting the scanner determine exposure, which might be different from slide to slide. I didn't confirm that it was the same. This is probably the problem, no? I will try again this evening.

Are your slides the same film brand as the target?
(i.e. is it granted that Dmin of your film material is >= Dmin of the
target?)

Yes, in this case all Kodak Kodachrome.
