In general, an IT8.7/1 or 2 file contains the “measured” XYZ/Lab values
for each color patches on the chart (237 or so, depending on the format?).
Argyll (colprof) analyzes the scanned RGB values of the chart and create
a “relationship” between the RGB values as reported by the scanner and the
XYZ/Lab measurements, stored in the text file you were given with the chart.
Once Argyll creates the profile, as long as certain conditions are met,
you’ll be able to use the profile, say in Photoshop, on any image obtained
from your scanner: you scan the image, the same way you scanned the IT8,
save and open in Photoshop. Upon opening the image in Photoshop, assign the
scanner profile created by Argyll. At this point, you are free to convert
the image from ‘scanner profile’ to any profile of your choice, be it sRGB,
AdobeRGB – whatever.
The arguments you supply to colprof are essentially :
a) the name of the text file containing the XYZ/Lab measurements;
b) the name of the scanned RGB image;
c) the name you want to give to your scanner profile.
Something like that. Sorry, it’s been a while since I created a scanner
profile.

Hello,
I want to scan a color chart with my scanner, then get the ti3 file with
correspondance between RGB scanned colors and LAB theorical colors of the
color chart. I understand that I must use scanin to do this. Then create an
ICC profile with which I could calculate LAB values of RVB scanned values.
But I have some questions :
1 : I don't understand what parameters I need to put in

2 : How to calculate the LAB values of a new scanned object with this ICC
profile and with the same scanner ?!
