MSWin & OS X both have OS provided mechanisms for storing ICC profiles
for different devices. Linux has no standard API for such things
(one of the main things that makes Linux a rotten environment
to write applications for is lack of, or no standard API's),
so there are ad hoc standards provided by different people.
By default ArgyllCMS uses its own ad hoc solution that I've
called ucmm, so that it always has something available,
regardless of the underlying Linux environment.
The Gnome Linux environment has colord by Richard Hughes, and with
his help in providing a suitable API, I made dispwin use colord
if it was present on the system. It appears that this API
is no longer usable in practice :-(
I just uninstalled colord, and dispwin -I works fine. So
what does having colord installed actually do for dispwin/argyllcms?
It was ArgyllCMS trying to "play nice" with colord.
Also, on a minor note, `dispwin -h` (I'm not sure the canonical way to
bring up help) has a small typo at `-I`, with "it's" instead of "its".
