i see where this is happening. when i choose the option for r g b to be 8
bit (0 - 255) resulting values, it says "need white for reference"

If you are measuring “reflectance” as in “light reflected from a colored
surface”, once you calibrate the instrument on its reference plaque, there
is no need to measure a “white piece of paper”, to my humble knowledge. You
directly measure the samples of interest.

hello. i was wondering about process for measuring color swatches so i
can put r g b values into photoshop or a 3d rendering program.
i do have my monitor calibrated and profiled using argyllcms and
displayCAL. my instrument is colormunki photo.
so here is what i just tried.
1. under config i go to original default
2. i choose spot reflectance
3. i measure a white piece of paper and tap the ref. button
4. i measure a color swatch and transfer the r g b values into photoshop.
does that sound right?
i do not have pantone colors on my phone. but i figured i could just use
the srgb results.
thanks.
