Thanks for tracking the problem down. I'm not sure what
to do about it though, apart from remove any allowance for
ACL_MANAGE, which is a pity, because it's a lot more natural
way of handling things like color instruments.

Frankly, the Linux handling of USB device access permissions is appalling,
and always has been.
The concept that an application that needs to access USB devices
may not be built into a Distribution doesn't seem to cross the Distro
developers minds. By comparison, the way this is handled in
OS X, Android and MSWindows is streets ahead.
