From a conceptual point of view, wouldn't it be better to implement a curvein such profiles, that mimics the behavior of the printer, instead of an L*curve?
It shouldn't make a whole lot of difference. It's the gamut hull shape & size of the source colorspace that is of primary importance for the gamut mapping. The grey axis response has some input as well, and the individual channel response (ie. gamma curve or L* etc.) should only have a secondary effect on the shape of the RGB cube faces. Graeme Gill.
