Hi
I’ve just been recommended this group and a little unsure on how to use it so
here goes.
I am trying to get better colours when printing on a Roland Versacamm Printer
and an i1Pro2.
I have calibrated my screen using DisplayCal so I am happy on that front, I now
need to do the printer side.
I’ll give you a breakdown on how I create my design files...
• Use Illustrator
• Design in Adobe 1998
• Use Pantone Spot Colours swatches (to get vibrant colours)
• Use Pantone Bridge swatches (if I need to colour match)
• Save as PDF/X-1a
The first thing I need to do is limit the ink levels due to pooling / ink
saturating the media, once I have that done I can then start making the
profile. (This was how I was doing it in the past but then I never got good
results so that could well be my problem).
Ok, after reading the information here:
https://argyllcms.com/doc/Scenarios.html#PC3 regarding profiling printers its ;
states that I need to first limit the ink and then check a previous profile to
see if it’s RGB or CMYK.
I can’t use iccdump due to the profiles being made in Version 4 so I opened the
profiles using Mac’s ColorSync utility and the space on 2 profiles says they’re
CMYK so at least I have a starting point.
Someone mentioned that I need to generate curves using PrintCal and apply them
to the target used for profiling using Printarg and finally store those curves
in the profile using Applycal.
So...
• Printcal
• Printtarg
• Applycal
As far as I understand I need to create a target by using something like:
targen -v -d4 -l250 -R -e8 -G -g128 -f1046 gloss_vinyl
Then you create tif files to measure using
printtarg -v -i1 -p269x330 -T600 gloss_vinyl
I’ll be honest, I’m lost
