Right, but it's possible the last strip read is what's
left it in a non-working state.

Maybe there is a kind of problem with usb compatibly?. I'll try to
uninstall  totally asrock xfast usb - maby disabling it is not enough.

It's something to do with USB, yes. It seems like the USB read
port on the instrument locks up. The control port is still working
though.

(I made a dispicalGUI monitor calibration without any problems and with
i1profile printer calibration so there is no problem with a cable)

The strip read is slightly different in that it is much larger,
and the instrument & sw behave differently since the read is
of unknown length (it continues until you release the button).

The Rev A & B instruments had some strange behaviour and quirks
with the strip USB read. I've never seen any problems with Rev D though.
