OK, I've thought of a simple way of separating these aspect, which is to add
another set of L*a*b* fields to the resulting .ti3 file, containing illuminant
relative values if a non-D50 illuminant is used. ArgyllCMS tools will ignore
these extras, but they are available for informational and comparative
purposes.
Sounds good to me. Your proposed extension for a list-based conversion already
helps a lot. Anyone can extract the corresponding data accordingly if need be
and the „regular“ spec2cie flow is still save for the classical Argyll usage.

Just wondering: How would you call non-D50 illuminant DATA_FORMAT since LAB_L
LAB_A LAB_B is already reserved for the D50 L*a*b*?
