So, how big a deal is the UVcut vs. non-UVcut model? In other words, should one
buy the non-UVcut model because the average user might use the features 1% of
the time, or is it a major issue that would affect most users most of the time?
Another way to put this is, what if one has a UVcut instrument? Should it just
be thrown in the trash because it is basically useless, or would it be worth
keeping?

The reason I ask is because on the used market it seems like the UVcut
instrument is pretty much the only one available.

 I assume we talk about
the i1Pro and not the i1Pro2.

No, the illumination between an UV/Non-UV is
also different. So a swap will not work.

i1's cover glass, so if the UV filter is implemented the

Yes it fits but the calibration will fail. No
okay calibration when the filter is changed.

It does have the same spot

separate calibration data for UV vs. non-UV.

 Correct

Not that I'm aware - but
then I don't have such an instrument.

 Physically the i1 doesn't
seem that different to the Spectrolino, which does have an
 interchangeable filter system.

It's easy enough to remove the i1's
cover glass, so if the UV filter is implemented the same way
as the Spectrolino, in theory all you have to do is replace
 it with the non-UV version.

 But:
      Maybe it
doesn't have the filter in the same spot and
      the i1 doesn't have
separate calibration data for UV vs. non-UV.

 The latter could affect
 accuracy.
