Viewing a printer-space-tagged image in Photoshop seems to result in
relative mappings of printer space paper white to display white and printer
space black to display black. So it still takes soft proof settings to get
an accurate display of the expected results.

Doing the absolute conversion back to working space lets you view expected
print colors including white and black without any soft proof settings. And
as long as all the printer spaces fit completely inside the working space,
it also allows for comparison of expected results across different papers
within a common familiar space.

At least this is the way it looks to me up through CS2. Maybe I'm missing
something? And is this still how it works with later versions of Photoshop,
and with Mac OS X Preview, and browsers?

Thanks.
