Hi,

Yep, those colours aren't easy to get right. I've done some work on the curve-based colour correction used in Gutenprint - and the real complication is that the printer's Cyan ink, and more specifically, the dark cyans that a naive RGB->CMYK conversion produces are *way* outside the monitor's gamut. It's very hard to create a simple model to compensate for that in a way that doesn't also desaturate the blues. Sounds like the driver you tried had similar issues...

Unfortunately, for RGB printers, profiling cannot generally compensate all flaws of the color mangling done in the driver. First you need to find a print mode and driver settings, which deliver maximum gamut, but still result in a smooth device response, with gradients of less than 1dE per RGB unit at any location within the gamut. This can be a tedious

What would you recommend gamma-wise for profiling? Am I better off attempting to adjust the gamma to match the screen's 2.2 in the driver, or print the patches with a gamma setting of something else and allowing the profiler to handle it?

All the best,
