Sadly, the problem didn't go away. The behavior of the modified profiles is the 
same.
But thanks to your contribution, we can rule this one out.

Did you, or someone else, ever looked at those two profiles on a LAB-plot?
Attached, you find the Lab-Plot from Apples ColorSync.
The wireframe gamut ist the eyeOne-iMatch profile, the smaller, colored one is 
ArgyllCms. Even here, the latter doesn't seem to reach black at the bottom of 
the give space. Coincidence?
