Is it possible to parameter this behavior to fine-tune?

Hi,
        no it's not like a "knob", it's a bug fix - getting
the intended CIECAM02 behaviour without running into
numerical range issues. Fiddling with the CIECAM equations
themselves is a whole other can of worms, which would take some
very in depth color science. (Go read some of the papers
on the different color appearance spaces to get some idea
of what this entails.)

If you are using perceptual then there are knobs that can be tweaked
in the gamut mapping, and they are available to anyone who's
prepared to compile the source. It's not obvious to me though
how any of the current parameters would be brought out and
scaled to be useful as a run time setting. The more obvious
"next step" for perceptual or saturation mapping is to use
an image specific mapping, which Argyll already makes possible.
