How about using Photoshop?

Using a « Select » function?

If you know the CMYK value you look for, you could create a small swatch, fill
it with that CMYK value, then use the Magic Wand using a low tolerance to
select all the areas in the image that have the same CMYK values as the
selected swatch?

Using Argyll, you can dump the content of the Lab to CMYK tag (table) of the
profile you want to look-up. Then, search wherever you see 5% Black value.
Maybe this will give you what you need?

in my case, I need to overprint pre-printed areas on a number of sheets. The
profile is given and printed tone values are known. Reprofiling is no option.
So I'm looking for an advanced way to look up the existing profile.

Hello Daniel,

If you want a certain Black % value, like 5%, as in your example, in my
opinion, you need to have a profile that has a certain kind of Black
Generation. Graeme would know better than me. With Argyll’s profiles, it’s
always GCR Black Generation strategy. So, for a given Lab value, if you want
Black to be a certain percentage, you may not find what you want? I suggest you
first create the profile and see what you get. That will give you a starting
point. And report back here 😊

Hello Color Friends,

I wonder if there is a way to look up a profile to get device values for an
intended color when one or more separation values are already given.

Of course, when certain channel values are fixed, there is probably no perfect
match possible. But that's not necessary for my application. I just need the
closest set of variable device values.

For instance:

- Some CMYK profile to lookup

- Target Color: L* 70 / a* 0 / b*0

- Given: Magenta 25%, Black 5%

Wanted Values = C, Y + Delta E to Targed Color

Any ideas?
