longer because it averages multiple readings. I dont understand one thing. I

the screensaver when running Argyll.....so how does the screensaver come into
the
picture? Or maybe (when you are testing) you are not disabling the screensaver?

As I explained, due to a feature (read bug) in Vista, the screen saver was
not being disabled, so by accident, I ended up taking readings of
the screensaver pattern, rather than the test colors. This resulted
in readings taking more than 30 seconds.

Quantization? I googled it....but still not sure about I understand it. These
colorimeters........dont they send out a reading every few seconds? Or is it a
constant
stream of data?

They take a (single) reading when you ask them to. For something like
the i1display, the reading for each channel is typically an integer number
between 0 and 300 or so. If you're trying to take a reading of a signal
that should actually be 2.1, and the instrument always returns
the closest number it can 2, then averaging lots of 2's will never
give you 2.1.
