Hello color (farbe) friends,
Good news and bad news.
As you may know, I have a freshly certified Minolta CS-200 that I use, among
my other instruments, in my research to characterize my faithful NEC PA271W
monitor.
(The CS-200 is not directly supported by Argyll, nothing I can do about
that)
Lately, I undertook to compare monitor profiles, for the purpose of finding
out which was "best" at a given task, those created by Argyll and those
created by X-rite i1Profiler.
I had to know. I hypothesized that the two profiles would be on the nose to
each other but that was not quite the case.
(I1Profiler's measurement files are a bitch, btw, because they're written in
XML).
Well, I'm happy to report that, compared to one set of "certified" SWOP2006
C3 hardcopy proofs I use, the Argyll's profile render colors closer,
overall, as compared to i1Profiler,
By creating increased overall red appearances.
My experiment is simple, I place each of the 32 proofs I use in a JNL
viewing booth sitting to the left of my monitor and compare, in Photoshop.
If I don't compare to any proofs, though, I tend to prefer i1Profiler's
rendering.
So my question, is there any way to "boost" Argyll's monitor profile red
content, overall, short of editing the White Point tag in XYZ, in the
profile?
Any kinds of global corrections? Nothing I could see, so far.
