It seems that MSWin has no way of accessing DDC/CI short of a
special system driver or by using display card specific
code prior to Vista, so I'm wondering how DELL do this on XP ?
OS X doesn't seem to be smooth sailing either, if you go by this:

None of this gives me the feeling that uploading calibration curves via
DDC/CI across all version of operating systems (MSWIn, OS X & Linux)
and different display types is an easy project.
Doing so just for displays that are accessible via USB might be more feasible.
