So the closest I have found is to use your "spotread -T" command to give me

run the command (or combine with watch to get it automatically updated.) At

gives me a temperature reading but I would still consider it less than ideal.
I'm not clear what you are after. You can certainly do other measurements such
as absolute and white point relative XYZ and L*a*b* measurements using spotread.
But since it sounds like you really want to fiddle the display controls rather
than profile, perhaps something like HCFR is more what you are looking for:
