Hi Graeme,

The error comes up whenever I run illumread, at the point where the
instrument is selected (for example with option 1) if there is no instrument
connected.  I get this error:
Problem signature:

I'm running version 1.6.3 32-bit (I had a problem with one of the modules in
the 64-bit version, I think it was oeminst, so I installed the 32-bit
version which is fine).

I'm on Windows 7 Pro SP1, 64-bit.

Before I realised that it was the lack of an instrument I re-installed
Argyll and then reverted back to a previous version of my system (I use
Acronis True Image to take snapshots of my system). The problem was still
there (even though I had run illumread several times before with no
problems). I then noticed that I had not attached the instrument: I did that
and illumread still crashed. I then checked to see if the Argyll driver was
selected and it was not. When I selected it I was able to run illumread.

Robert

I can't reproduce this. If I have no instrument connected on WinXP I get:

illumread -v test.sp

Press 1 .. 7
1) Measure direct illuminant
2) Measure illuminant reflected from paper
3) Measure paper
4) Select another instrument, Currently 1 ( 'COM1')
5) Compute illuminant spectrum, average result with 0 previous readings &
save it
6) Compute illuminant spectrum from this reading & save result
7) Exit

If I try and measure something I get:

'1'
!!! Unknown, inappropriate or no instrument detected !!!

'4'
    1 = 'COM1'
    2 = 'COM3'
    3 = 'COM4'
Select device 1 - 3:

Can you be more specific about how you caused a crash ?

Graeme Gill.
