Sorry Miguel, I didnt see the last part of your question. Which actually was
pretty vital I think :-) Instead of moving the cht file I specified the folder
and somehow that worked. Writing this:
scanin -v -dipna /home/peter/Desktop/it87/SM11KProviaCQ16G22.tif
/usr/share/color/argyll/ref/it8.cht /home/peter/Desktop/it87/F180316.txt
diagfile.tif
... gave me an .ti3 file. I thought I would get a diagfile in tiff format? Can
I with the files I have and the .ti3 file make the icc profile?

Is the error due to some other stuff?
Again, looks like 'scanin' is not finding the 'it8.cht' file. Probably
there's some issue with your installation of Argyll or you are running it
from the wrong place. You didn't give any details about your platform,
versions used, etc.
Where are your Argyll files located? Did you try to specify the whole path to
'it8.cht' on the 'scanin' command line?
