So - If I use COLOR_REP "iRGB_XYZ"

does that mean that my X, Y, Z values are then required, or could I include 
just the R, G, B, SPEC_380, SPEC_390, ... etc.? The XYZ seems redundant to the 
"primal" spectral data from which it was derived.

It's up to you, although XYZ is safer, although make sure that XYZ is for a D50
illuminant, and LAB is also computed relative to a D50 white point.

  * I presume that the data line shall contain both the {R, G, B} command 
vectors that I
    sent to the printer for each patch, along with the set of measurement 
results that I
    collected from each patch. The spectral bands seem like they would be the 
most useful
    of my available measurements; is there also any value added by including 
my {X,Y,Z} or
    {L*,a*,b*} triads as well?

It's up to you. If there is an XYZ or Lab, then they will be used by default 
though.

  * If I do need to include XYZ and/or Lab values, I'd like to try the option 
of having
    Argyll compute them instead of the ones that I've calculated (in case of 
possible bugs
    in my program). Which Argyll function is appropriate for that?

Use any option that needs spectral data, i.e. by selecting the 1931 standard 
observer,
or D50 illuminant.
