Normand, ok, I understand what you mean. Admittedly, there exist indeed cases
where an uneven volume coverage can lead to strange shapes of the fitted
splines. I can't tell, though, whether or not this would be a general issue in
conjunction with the particular case of excessive gray axis coverage - I think
this could only be anayzed individually for the specific measurement data.
