Hello Graeme!
Yes, I totally agree with you, it's strange that somebody still use such
old format. But sometimes it happens... And it's good to have a tool
which can convert it to more common format. So MeasureTool is still very
useful tool, and it can be used in demo mode almost without limitations.
By the way, now X-Rite uses CXF V.3, ant it's a part of ISO standard now:
ISO 17972-3:2017, Graphic technology — Colour data exchange format
(CxF/X) — Part 3: Output target data (CxF/X-3).
There are some useful things for InkKitchen (InkForm, quality control)
there, at least it's possible to save Color Libraries measurements
(Pantone, custom colors etc) with different filters (M0,M1, etc.) in one
file.
Best regards,
Alexey Gribunin, UNIT Color Technologies, Moscow, Russia.

CXF v.1 is superseded and exceedingly complex, so it's disappointing
to know that reference files are being distributed solely in such
a format. X-Rite have moved on to CXF V.2, which is a little more sane,
but still much more complex than CGATS, while not adding a whole lot of
practical value.
