... but I disagree about the point that it's stupid.

Firefox is only a web browser. It's not a graphics editor (even if
some JavaScript or Flash code thinks differently...).
So it's sufficient if it's good enough. It's quality doesn't need to
be perfect - for that please use a graphics editor.

So if there's a tradeoff between quality and speed, the graphics
editor has to choose 100% quality, a web browser is ok to go towards
speed.

(As written above: I'm not into the different implementations. So it
might be that the speed gain is neglectable but the quality difference
is huge. Then also a browser should go the quality path...)
