Right, if Gutenprint is converting from RGB to CMYK, then you need to setup
for
a particular paper by altering the CMYK parameter values (maximums, dot gain
compensation, light ink crossovers, totals etc.)
Sorry I can't help you with specifics, since I don't know much about the
Gutenprint internals.
If the device was being driven in CMYK and the print driver/RIP didn't have
paper setup controls itself (i.e. if it was a raw printer driver), then I
would
use ArgyllCMS printcal to setup for the specific paper (dot gain compensation
and per channel maximum %), together with setting a total ink limit in the
CMYK ICC profile creation.
