How does the monitor profile handle making it read? Also how does the iO
device cause it to measure? There must be a software method, just not
documented.

Short answer is no. The instrument itself uses the button to
start and stop the data stream.
There may be ways around this by setting up a very long transfer and
aborting it somehow, but it would need some amount of
extra code in the i1pro driver to try this approach out and see if
it would work.
