I would recommend trying Basiccolor Display - there is a free demo which is fully functional.What does this offer that argyll doesn't?
Or rather, what does this offer that argyll and both of Xrite's programs don't? From what I understand this is looking like a configuration issue combined with the i1d2 being old, rather than failure of the profiling software itself.
