Just an idea for an alternative to (b)jam to consider, where part of the mileage has been taken already by the LProf maintainers.

I've looked at SCons, but it doesn't hold much attraction over Jam,
and some disadvantages (extra sting quoting to conform to
Python syntax).

Jam is also regarded as being quite easy, reliable, and platform
independent. It just requires a C compiler to build.
