I'm pleased to announce the release of ArgyllCMS V2.2.0.
This includes a number of minor bug fixes, as well as (hopefully)
some fixes for the latest OS X update breakage. (I'm unable to
verify operation on the latest OS X versions myself.)
The major feature addition is native support for the X-Rite i1Pro3
and i1Pro3 Plus spectrometer instruments. These instruments were
introduces early in 2020 and while having many similarities to
their predecessors, use an updated and incompatible communication
protocol, necessitating a complete driver re-write. Given the expense
of obtaining an instrument and the difficulty inherent in deciphering the
operation of a relatively complex device to the point of being able
to write a useful driver, I was not confident that ArgyllCMS was going
to have support for them any time soon. Fortunately the active interest of a
commercial licensee made it possible to devote the 7 months of intense
development necessary to result in a comprehensive driver. It was never likely
that I would have an i1Pro3Plus to work with, and hence support for
this instrument was highly uncertain, but it turns out that the i1Pro3
and i1Pro3Plus are virtually identical, so a little help from someone
with the Plus instrument was all that was needed to enable support for
it as well.
Note that for use on MSWindows it will be necessary to update the
system driver to enable recognition of the i1Pro3 VID/PID,
and also on Linux/X11 it will be necessary to update the the udev
permissions list for the same reason. See the OS specific
install instructions for help on how to do this.
