Graeme,
I tried using colprof -S, but that does not seem to help. The new
profile is much bigger (as file size), but there is no difference in how
the shadows are rendered. What I have done is the following:

dispcal -t6500 -gs -b100 -ql -v -e1 -yl -o eizoCX240-pre.icm
eizoCX240-riscalda

dispcal -t6500 -gs -b100 -Ibw -qh -v -e2 -yl eizoCX240

targen -v -d3 -G -e20 -g 256 -c eizoCX240-pre.icm -f3000 eizoCX240

dispread -v -y l -Ibw -k eizoCX240.cal eizoCX240

colprof -A "Eizo" -M "CX240" -D "$d - $s" -v -q h -d mt -aX eizoCX240

mv eizoCX240.icc eizoCX240-orig.icc

colprof -A "Eizo" -M "CX240" -D "$d - $s" -v -q h -d mt -Zp -S
eizoCX240-orig.icc -aX eizoCX240
