it doesn't make a whole lot of sense unless you know the directional
pattern of the light source and have a known, fixed geometric relationship
between that light source and the instrument.
Emissive mode measures light coming from one direction (i.e. Luminance).
Ambient mode measures light with a cosine weighting for direction (i.e.
Illuminance).
So a particular calibration factor depends critically on the directional
characteristics of the light source and the relative location of the instrument,
so an emissive type measurement can substitute for an ambient measurement
only in very restricted circumstances.
