many thanks indeed for pointing out, what the problem is!
Although I did look at the diagnostic images, I was focused on the patch
alignment and I missed to notice the overall shift. I must admit that I am
quite embarrassed that this escaped my attention :-( .
I will see how I can fix this and try other versions of the target scans to
avoid the problem. I will come back and report any successful procedure as
soon as possible.
Many thanks again for your help and an excellent software! The colours I get
with Argyll are considerably better than those I get with SilverFast's ICC
profile.

What worries me is the last line of the output from profcheck:

yes, this indicates a problem with the scanin process, and indeed,
looking at Targetscan_3_diagnostic.tif straight away shows the problem:
the chart is 180 degrees out of alignment.
I can't reproduce this though. If I run the command you list in your .bat
file, I get
a wrong alignment, but the chart is displaced one line down, not 180
rotation.
[ That would seem to indicate either a different set of options, or the
Targetscan_3.tif no longer matches the Targetscan_3_diagnostic.tif. ]
In fact, I can't get any of the 3 charts to align automatically with the
files
you made available.
The easiest way of working around this I found was to crop out the
extraneous text on each scan. Another way would be to provide explicit
fiducial coordinates. With the charts properly aligned I get a self-fit
error in the profile of some where around average 0.7 and peak 5.6 delta E.
